Returning To Costa Rica: Healing, Faith, And Mental Health Awareness

This year, our ShineBright team had the opportunity to return to Costa Rica for another outreach trip focused on mental health, psychology, faith, and healing within the community. Although we visited a different area this time, our mission was still the same. We wanted to create a safe and supportive space where children, parents, and older adults could feel understood and supported through both practical conversations and faith-centered guidance.

Throughout the trip, we partnered with local families and communities to host workshops and activities centered around emotional well-being, identity, healing, and trusting God through life’s challenges. Older adults participated in worship and reflection sessions focused on the importance of caring for mental health at every stage of life. Parents attended workshops discussing how emotional struggles or personal experiences can impact both themselves and their families, while children participated in activities involving movement and creativity to help them express emotions in healthy ways while learning about their value and purpose.

Another important part of the trip involved conversations about healing from past trauma and emotional burdens. We encouraged individuals to reflect on their experiences and understand how personal healing can positively affect future generations. During the main event, parents and children separated into workshops designed specifically for each group, focusing on healing, identity, faith, and emotional growth. Throughout the trip, members of our team also shared personal testimonies about faith and challenges they have personally faced, which helped create openness and honest conversations within the community. By returning to Costa Rica, we hope to continue encouraging communities and creating spaces where people feel supported and understood.
